Birth Story (told by Proud Surrogate)
Well 22 Dec 03 started with me waking up and saying a little prayer and
then talking to the two people I was about to meet. I thanked them for the
wonderful journey and told them how much they were wanted and all the people
who were excited to meet them today. After getting up and getting dressed
I ran a few errands before my IPs arrived. They called when they got to
town and we met them at IHOP. After a wonderful late breakfast, we all headed
off to the hospital.
At the hospital we stopped in with the social worker to let him know we
had arrived and then headed upstairs to get checked in. After settling into
our room and getting all the prelim stuff done we just hung out and waited
for the time to come to get wheeled back to the operating room.
Finally it was time and I was wheeled into the operating room while my IM
and DH got suited up. They did my spinal and prepped me and then got started.
My IM and DH were led into the room to be with me at this point. Nicole
Anne came out pretty quickly and was born fairly quickly. Paul Jeffrey much
has decided he liked where he was because it took some tugging to get him
to come out. After they were out the nurse went and got my IF so he could
come see the babies. My IM was running back and forth between the babies
and me the whole time. She was worried about me because my biggest fear with
the c-section had always been being left alone and not seeing the babies when
they were born. I kissed her and told her to go be with her babies and she
said she loved me and ran. LOL She brought each baby over so I could see
them and after the nurses cleaned them up and weighed them they headed off
to the nursery. She went with the babies to the nursery while my DH stayed
with me.
After being cleaned up and wheeled into the recovery room my IPs came in
to tell me all about the babies and thank me again. I had lost quite a bit
of blood so I was pretty woozy. I was taken back to my room a short time
later and the nurses brought in the babies. They are absolutely adorable.
Both weighing in at exactly 6 pounds they were perfect. I held them for
a while and watched my DH help my IM feed each one for the first time. She
was in absolute heaven.
My IPs were able to take their babies home on Christmas Eve. It’s funny,
last year on Christmas Eve I had to call my IM and tell her that our transfer
didn't’t work. This year on Christmas Eve they were able to take home their
very healthy babies. What a year it as been. The babies are doing wonderful
and growing like weeds.
I have been having some major health issues since delivering the twins.
A few hours after giving birth things turned a bit hairy. My blood pressure
soared over 200 and I spent the night on mag sulfate. Less than one week later
I ended up back in the hospital for about a week with congestive heart failure.
I’m home and doing better but it looks as though I will no longer be able
to get pregnant. It is highly discouraged because I have over a 40% chance
of having heart complications in any future pregnancies and a 19% chance
of death.
I am very proud of what I have been a part of. I still haven’t dealt with
all that has happened to me and where I am now. I can say that I have no
regrets and I would do it all over again in a nanosecond. |
