Birth Story
"Rainbows are people whose lives are bright, shining examples
for others. Shine on, Shine on. The world needs more people like you." That
is from a card that my best friend gave me yesterday after delivering my
surro baby. And In those few words, a surrogate is summed up completely.
For some reason, I find it harder and harder with each surrogacy to sum the
journey up in a short birth story. But I will do my best!!!!!
I was in labor and delivery early wednesday morning after a night of pain
and unstable blood pressure. While there I felt great!! No contractions,
no pain, and very normal BP's. So, they sent me home knowing I was going
to be seeing my OB the next day. So I saw my doc and everything looked great.
So once again I was sent home to wait it out.
I was aroused from sleep on thursday night not feeling well. That is the
only way I know how to explain what it was I was feeling. I checked my blood
pressure again and I felt it was to high to ignore so I called labor and
delivery and was told to come in for monitoring.
We got there at about 4:30 am friday morning. After a couple hours of up
and down pressures and a call to my doc, the decision was made to induce.
I made all the needed phone calls, admitted and settled into a room. The
pit was started at 8 am and my best friend had arrived, so all labor coaches
were in place.
At around 9:00 my OB came in and broke my water and the fun began!!! I was
only 2 cm at that time, but my doc gave the order to give me my epidural
as soon as I wanted it. And it wasn't long before I wanted it!!! LOL The
epi was in place by 10:30 and I was then in labor heaven!!!
Hubby was calling my IP's at different times to fill them in on what was
happening. I once again had to accept the fact that they would more than
likely not be there for the birth of their daughter.
It was about 12:30 when I felt something happening. I was checked and I was
at a 6 at that time.
1:15 rolled around and my nurse proceeded to drain my bladder. I don't think
it was 5 minutes later and I said they had better give my doc a call!!! They
checked me and I was complete. And like last time, trying not to bear down
at all because I knew she was right there!!!!
I had also been asked if it was ok if 2 paramedics in training observed the
birth. After finding out if they were cute or not, and making a few jokes
about hemorroids, I allowed them in to watch.
My doc finally made it and suited up and at 1:53 she told me to push and
one good push later, Perrin Analie came into this world squeaking like a
tiny mouse!!! She was 6lbs 10 oz and 19 inches long. Oh yeah, did you notice
the name change?? The day before, she went from a Brigette to a Perrin!!!!
LOL
Did I mention she was beautiful?? Oh was she ever!!!! A perfect, tiny angel!!!!
The rest of the afternoon was spent marveling over this little miracle. My
IP's didn't make it there until 8pm, and I thoroughly enjoyed the special
time I had with her. But I enjoyed watching her with her family more than
anything. The wonderment in Baylors eyes as she looked at her new sister
was something I will treasure. Seeing these 2 miracles together gave me a
pleasure beyond words.
I have once again been a part of a miracle that words can never express!!
